Based upon our personal histories and experiences, we all have varying reactions to the presence of people in our lives who exhibit disabilities. Perhaps a family member meets our definition of ‘differently-abled’, or a co-worker. Often it’s a homeless person we encounter on the street. What about somebody sitting in the row not far from you in church? Maybe we ourselves fall into someone’s category of that label.

This is not an invitation to point fingers. It’s an open window into self-evaluation. As we honestly confront our fears and limitations of understanding, there is hope for us to give flesh and blood to the attitude of true thanksgiving.
