Position Summary:

-Buckman Bridge Unitarian Universalist Church (BBUUC) in Jacksonville, Florida, seeks a purpose-driven Director of Lifespan Religious Education (DLRE) to continue and grow our lifespan religious education programs, support volunteers, assist parents, members, and make visitors and their children feel welcome in a growing community.  We have a nursery and children’s programs.  We would like to rebuild the youth program as the pandemic impacted our trajectory of growth.  BBUUC is committed to year round Unitarian Universalist faith development programming for children, youth and adults.  

 

Education and Experience:

-A passion to give people enhanced understanding of Unitarian Universalist principles

-Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (four to eight years of work experience)

-Experience in church ministry

-Trained or willing to be trained in First Aid and CPR

 

Major Areas of Responsibilities:

A.  Welcome new families.

B.  Recruit, train and support Lifespan Religious Education (LRE) volunteers.

C.  Interview, hire and supervise childcare staff. Initial point-of-contact for nursery concerns. Notify the Board of Directors of parental concerns.

D.  Manage the Our Whole Lives (OWL): Lifespan Sexuality Education program.

E.  With the LRE Committee, provide curriculum planning and leadership for long-range planning and goal-setting based on the church’s philosophy of religious growth and learning, using the Montessori method as much as possible.  

F.  Work with the LRE Chair and Treasurer to keep religious education expenses, records, and files current. 

G.  Plan religious education budget in collaboration with the LRE Committee.  

H.  Maintain resources (including LRE library), supplies and equipment.

I.  Work with the LRE Chair/Committee, Program Committee, and Hospitality Committee (Celebrations & Socials Group) to plan special and intergenerational events.

J.  Keep the Board and congregation apprised of the LRE program. Provide a monthly report to the Board.  Participate in monthly Board meetings as an ex officio, non-voting member.

K.  Meet regularly with the LRE Chair and provide them with information to use in submitting monthly reports for Council meetings. Be involved in monthly Council meetings.  Attend district and area religious education conferences and workshops when possible.

L.  Provide adult religious education support to implement the mission and vision of the congregation.

M.  Work closely with the Worship Committee to ensure a cohesive service that infuses LRE themes, and lead Time for All Ages for most Sundays.  

 

Position Requirements:

-Our new DLRE must have strong communication skills and show a love for all.  They must have excellent people skills, be personable with wonderful organizational skills and logistical aptitude.  They must enjoy synergy and be able to work within a flexible schedule.  

 

Compensation:

-Anticipated salary will fall within the Unitarian Universalist Association salary guidelines, based on credentials and experience with a minimum starting salary of $36,000.   A full compensation package including benefits will be negotiable.
