Lessons from My Summer Vacation

Jennifer Bacmeister presents
“Lessons from My Summer Vacation”
Kris Kines, Worship Leader
Dr. Gary Smart, Accompanist
Mike Bernos, Guitar and Vocals

As children, many of us probably had to write an essay, at least once, about our summer vacation when we returned to school in the fall. Our teachers probably had more than one reason for such an assignment. As adults, our vacations are very different than when we were school children. In many UU congregations, services are suspended in the summer, with regular programming returning when the youth return to school. As people of faith, as UUs – is it possible to take a break from our faith? Are there “summer vacations” on your spiritual journey? If so, what might your back-to-school essay reveal?

The service will also include the Annual Blessing of the Backpacks, a time to honor and recognize new beginnings, the rhythm of the academic year, and the importance of being open to lifelong learning. Kids and youth are invited to bring their backpacks or school bags to the service so that they may be blessed in this new year of learning by the love of our congregation.
