A message on the call to move from an ethic of compliance and conformity to one of play and imagination for the sake of our children’s flourishing as well as our own.

Please bring loose change or extra cash for our monthly “Pennies from Heaven” collection. This quarter’s recipient is Everypet (formerly First Coast No More Homeless Pets), which helps keep pets with their families by funding affordable vet care, emergency pet food, and low cost spay/neuter services—saving thousands of animals each year, including over 8,000 cats.

About Our Speaker

David Dean, a BBUUC member and an integral part of our Worship Team, is an Emmy-nominated editor who works as Senior Editor/Post-Producer for the PBS series “Samantha Brown’s Places to Love.” David is also a presenter, writer, and storyteller who volunteers his time as the editor of our worship videos and contributes his other talents in the worship arts to our ministry.

About the Sermon Author

Eric Hepburn (he/him) is the spiritual and worship leader (Pulpiteer) of the San Gabriel Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, preaching at least twice monthly. A longtime UU lay leader since 2005, he’s been an ordained spiritual humanist conducting weddings and memorials since 2008 and was recognized as a Community Lay Minister in 2023. He holds a BS in civil engineering and an MA in sociology, spent 25 years in IT, fabrication technology, and higher-ed management, and is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Ministry in Social Justice Leadership at Meadville Lombard. He lives in Austin, Texas with his wife Christie and son Simon. He is white, cisgender, heterosexual, able-bodied, middle-aged, short, and part of a transracial adoptive family — descriptors, not definitions.

About our Guest Musician

Timothy Edwards studied violin in Detroit public schools and at Interlochen Arts Academy before earning a Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music and a Master of Music from the University of Michigan. He has held section, principal, and concertmaster roles with the Des Moines Metro Opera, Flint Symphony, and Toledo Symphony, with substitute appearances for the Detroit and Jacksonville symphonies. A dedicated educator, he has guided gifted young violinists and served as an adjunct professor at Florida State College at Jacksonville. He currently performs as a soloist and chamber collaborator for four Jacksonville churches and is concertmaster of the Civic Orchestra of Jacksonville, which offers free concerts to the community.
