100 years ago, a Unitarian minister named Norbert Capek held the first Flower Communion service in a small spare church in Czechoslovakia that had no piano, no organ, and little adornment. Minister Capek invited the congregants to each bring in a flower of any type, any color or any size. The flowers, representing the beauty and uniqueness of each individual in the congregation were put together into vases and created a profusion of color and beauty in the simple church, much in the same way each congregant brings their own light and truth to the congregation. At the end of the ritual, each congregant is invited to take a flower, any flower, just not the one that they came with. The giving and receiving of the flowers with free will and open heart represents the free will with which we welcome and hold our fellow churchgoers and are blessed by the diversity between us as see these differences as beauty.

Join us in this joyful event, our Annual Flower Communion Service as we celebrate its historic 100 year anniversary. This will be a family service and a family Church Picnic and BBQ will begin directly after.

About our Guest Musician:

Timothy Edwards began his violin studies in the public schools of Detroit before studying at the Interlochen Arts Academy. He holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music (BM) and the University of Michigan (MM). He has performed extensively, holding positions as section performer, principal, and concertmaster at the Des Moines Metro Opera; Flint Symphony; Toledo Symphony; with substitute positions with the Detroit Symphony and Jacksonville Symphony. Timothy enjoys a vibrant teaching studio and has served as a Humanities Adjunct Professor at the Florida State College of Jacksonville.
