Donna came to UU in 2004, not as a member, but hired as the Chief Operating Officer of the First UU Church of Dallas. This 1000 member congregation had been in Dallas since 1895. She had never heard of Unitarian Universalism prior to that but when she read the church website and the UUA website she knew the principles resonated with her. Within 4 months she knew she had found a church home and she and her spouse, Cyndi, added their names to the Book of Names.
Donna’s primary work background was in social services. However, she has always felt a calling to a higher purpose, but her life circumstances were such that she wasn’t able to pursue exactly what that might mean for her. She innately translated that to the work she did and the services she provided, no matter the job she held.
When she and Cyndi returned to Donna’s hometown of Jacksonville 3 years ago she sought out a local UU church, and was delighted to find BBUUC. Since most of her prior work was “head” work, she wanted to pay homage to her need to engage in “heart/spirit” work. She began her covenant with the congregation to be on the Pastoral Care Team after attending the required training. She now also shares her talents and experience on the Worship Leader Team, and with the Ministerial Search Committee.
Donna and Cyndi have been together for 22 years. They and their 2 dogs, Rosie and Callie, live in Mandarin. Donna’s two daughters and their families live in Julington Creek. Donna has a total of six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. By the time you read this, Donna will be retired from her job of 12 years as a Senior Human Resource Specialist. She looks forward to continuing sharing her gifts with BBUUC for years to come.
