Sometimes we see our limits like walls around our lives, and we spend so much energy, so much attention pushing against the walls, but we can also turn our attention to the freedom we have within those constraints…

About Our Speaker
Kris Kines has been a member of BBUUC for over 20 years. She’s served on the Board and the Council multiple times and is currently a member of the Nominating Committee, but her passion has always been with the Worship Committee. Usually seen at the pulpit as the Worship Leader, she is expanding her role to deliver Sermons written by UU ministers.

About the Sermon Author
Rev. Darcey Laine grew up in a musical family and has a bachelor’s degree in Music performance from Indiana University.  She attended Star King School for the Ministry, where she developed a passion for ministering to children and youth.  After her ordination in 1998 to the Unitarian Universalist Ministry, she served as DRE for the First UU Church of Stockton, then settled in Silicon Valley, where she served as Minister of Religious Education for the Unitarian Universalist Church of Palo Alto for seven years. In the summer of 2007, Darcey and her partner Eric and son Nick moved to Ithaca, New York, to be closer to family. In 2008, she was called to serve as Parish Minister of the UU Church of Athens and Sheshequin (PA) and has served as their settled minister ever since. She began a second ministry with the UU Church of Cortland (NY) in 2018. She helped both congregations enter into a congregational partnership of mutual support, collaboration, and care that has continued to this day.

About our Musicians
Enamored with the music of the 1960’s, “Firepit” Mike Ludwick taught himself to play guitar as a teenager. Making music and singing have been life-affirming spiritual practices for him, which he uses to help bend the arc of the moral universe toward justice, love, and peace.
Emily Rose Ludwick is a 9th-grade public school teacher at Creekside High School who enjoys music, art, and writing. She’s a D&D nerd, obsessed with exploring characters, over-analyzing narrative themes, killing the part of her that cringes, and building community through shared storytelling. She’s been singing as long as she’s been able, but singing with her dad, Michael Ludwick, has always been her favorite. She loves indie folk, syrup-voiced crooners, and the soundtrack of Trolls 3. Her favorite groups to listen to right now are The Crane Wives and Hozier!
