Alyssa Halliday presents
a sermon written by
Rev. Clare L. Petersberger
Minister, Towson Unitarian Universalist Church, Lutherville (MD)
“Listening for Your Word”
Elizabeth DeCoux, Worship leader
Dr. Gary Smart, Accompanist

Whether we say we pray or we say we do not pray, whether we address God or speak of loving kindness, whether we close our practice with an emphatic “Amen,” in the name of gratitude, or with a namaste, may we listen for your word, or simply pay attention ‘not to change the world, but to change ourselves. Because it is when we change ourselves . . . the world is changed.

About our Speaker
Alyssa Halliday has been attending BBUUC since 2017. After becoming a member in 2018, she has served on various committees, including her favorite Worship Committee. She enjoys leading worship and appreciates the opportunity to share a sermon written by a UU minister.

About the Sermon Author
Rev. Clare Petersberger’s father was raised in a Reform Jewish synagogue in Iowa. Her mother was raised in an Episcopal church in New Jersey. Before marrying, they agreed to raise any children as Unitarian Universalists. Thus, she was raised in Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church in Bethesda, Maryland, and ordained by that congregation in June of 1989. Her first call was to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Midland, Texas, where they spoke at local school Board meetings to remove the confederate flag as a symbol of school spirit at a local high school and to keep Creationism out of the public school science curricula. They knew that religious freedom is not to be taken for granted. She currently serves as Minister of Towson UU Church in Lutherville, Maryland, where their vision is to be an intentionally inclusive community engaging with each other and the world in a heartfelt search for truth and meaning. Their mission is to deepen their ethical and spiritual lives together as they work for racial, social, and environmental justice.

SPECIAL NOTE

This is the weekend of the Jax NAS Air Show. Gates open at 9:00 AM, show starts at 11:00 AM. We’ve been working around this for many years, and it just takes some planning, an earlier departure and arrival, and a bit of maneuvering (maybe some trickery), and we’ll all make it in!

To encourage early arrival, the READI Ministry is sponsoring a CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST  that will be available for all at 9:30 AM, so plan to beat the traffic, come early, and enjoy coffee, juice, pastries, and fruit before the service.
