POP (Parents of Preschoolers) is a video-based, at-home curriculum grounded in Unitarian Universalism and designed for parents and caregivers of children ages 2-5. By engaging with POP videos, parents and caregivers learn to understand their child’s spiritual development, to build rituals that support this development, and to see themselves as spiritual teachers.

This Month’s Theme: Let’s Play!

Quick quiz: what is play?

If you’re like many people, you immediately thought of an activity involving toys, or friends, or both. Play can involve those things — but at POP, we define it a little more broadly. To us, play is any activity that engages the full self, joyfully, in the present moment. Play can be done alone or with others, with toys or with the stuff of everyday life. And our preschoolers are experts at it.

You might say they’re born to play!

For preschoolers, play is yet another way to show us who they are and what they most deeply need. By paying attention to the ways in which they use play behavior to engage and teach us, we can learn how to use it to parent with lighter hearts – – to communicate with, connect with, and even coach our children with more good humor.

This month’s videos will offer several invitations to notice how your children’s natural inclination to play influences your relationship with them.

Feel free to engage with the prompts whenever and however you’d like…and know that you’re free to take or leave any of the suggestions offered in these videos. Use them now if you think they’ll work for you or save them for later if they’re not a good fit right now!
