Visiting the Sick: Helping the Bereaved

This workshop will offer practical suggestions about what to do and not do when visiting a sick person and the family as part of outreach ministry. The first part will include tips on preparing for the visit, “bedside etiquette,” and starting a meaningful conversation. This will be followed by an overview of grief including the causes, the process, how it can be resolved and helpful and not so helpful things to say and do to help the bereaved.

Presenter: Jim Monahan, M.Ed. has over 25 years of hospice experience. He has a number of related publications and has provided training in England, Australia, New Zealand, China and Barbados. He is the Vice President of Education at The Neviaser Educational Institute of Community Hospice & Palliative Care.
