As a faith without a doctrine, creed, or dogma, Unitarian Universalism has, since the beginning of our formation, been a religion based on Covenant – a practice of promising to walk together.
At BBUUC, we have a solid practice of creating covenants within small group ministries, committees, boards, and other bodies within the church. We also have a Covenant of Right Relations, which we created together as a congregation to clarify expectations in the work we do together and create a safe environment.
Many churches in the UUA go beyond group and right relations covenants and work more deeply together to create a congregational covenant that articulates the promises and aspirations of our members, becoming a golden thread that runs through the tapestry of our community, our culture, and our lives.
Covenant is the theological foundation of Unitarian Universalism – the precious core of our faith. Your Healthy Congregation Team will be facilitating our members through the process of creating a Congregational Covenant in the coming weeks. We hope that all our members will make an effort to participate in this process by attending one of the three meetings being offered to gather your input and answers to some very important questions. We’ll explore answers to questions about what we believe in, to whom or what are we accountable, and promises we wish to make to one another.
A Creating a Congregational Covenant meeting will be held on three different occasions. There will be two live meetings on Sunday afternoons and one Zoom meeting for those who are unable to attend in person.
Detailed information will be sent to all members in the coming days via email, and we will ask for your RSVP to let us know which meeting you plan to attend for planning purposes.
Sunday, February 20th, at 12:00 p.m.
Monday, March 7th VIA ZOOM, at 7:00 p.m.
Sunday, March 13th, at 12:00 p.m.
For the Sunday meetings, there will be a 30-minute break after the service where simple beverages and snacks will be available on the porch, or you may choose to bring a sack lunch and tailgate or eat lunch in your car before the meeting starts, since we currently have a moratorium on food and drink in the sanctuary due to Covid restrictions.
Meeting length may vary, but we will keep the meetings to a maximum of 2 hours. We hope you will find a date that works for you and plan to attend. Look for more information soon. Every member’s input is critical for this process.
