I’m very excited to share a wonderful example of our BBUUC community living out our Unitarian Universalist values.

Our new automatic doors are now in place, making it easier for more members of our community to enter our sanctuary independently with greater autonomy, dignity, and welcome.

This project began with our youth group, Beacon. They recognized that we had an opportunity to make our church more accessible and began fundraising to help make that vision a reality. We are incredibly grateful to Beacon for seeing this need and for taking action.

We also want to thank our previous Board for supporting the project and providing additional funding to move it forward, and our Facilities Team—and especially Ryan Cobb—for the tremendous work of overseeing and coordinating the project.

Accessibility is about more than doors. It is about making sure that everyone has a meaningful opportunity to participate, belong, and fully be part of our community.

This project is one more way that BBUUC is living our commitment to widen our circle of community and love.

And we’re not finished yet. Additional accessibility work on the doors will continue over the coming months as we keep looking for ways to make our church more welcoming and accessible to all.
