Unitarian Universalists aspire to some pretty lofty ideals. Racial and gender equality. Environmental justice. World peace. There’s no shortage of vision in our ranks. What we do often seem to miss is the inspiration to carry them forward. This morning I’d like to offer the gift of story to the congregation in the form of a new twist on an old story – a story that has been inspiring romantic idealists for centuries.
About our Guest Speaker:
Rev. Dr. Fred Howard has roots deep in Georgia soil. He was born and raised in Macon, attended Valdosta State College and then the Medical College of Georgia, and practiced medicine as a family physician in Cairo and Douglas for twenty years. In 2002 he heard the call to ministry, closed his medical practice, moved to Atlanta, and began studies at Candler School of Theology. Following graduation, Fred served as minister of the Valdosta UU Church for eleven years. Currently, he is working at Community Hospice in Jacksonville in the clinical pastoral education program. He is author of Transforming Faith: Stories of Change from a Lifelong Spiritual Seeker, recipient of numerous awards including the coveted Nautilus Book Award, and Children of Covenant, an intriguing and informative suspense novel that will be of special interest to UUs.
During this time of social distancing, when in-person worship has been suspended, BBUUC will continue our weekly worship in video format that you can find on YouTube each Sunday morning at the “BBUUC Video” channel. Simply subscribe to the channel on YouTube, and you can watch our weekly worship services, modified for video viewing until we can resume gathering together for worship in our church sanctuary. The worship videos will remain on the site for viewing at your convenience.
