UUCF will meet this Sunday, January 26 at 9:00 AM in the Forrest Church Rm. We will watch and discuss two relatively short videos. The first is “The Iconoclastic Controversy in the Middle Ages:
“In the eighth and ninth centuries AD, a controversy arose, especially within the Eastern Orthodox Church, regarding the use of icons in religious worship and instruction. An icon is a representation of Jesus, Mary, the saints, or angels on a flat surface-either as a painting or a mosaic. Those who upheld the religious use of icons came to be known as iconodules or “lovers of images.” Those who decried the religious use of icons came to be known as iconoclasts, or “smashers of images.” The most heated debate and actions of the controversy took place between 726 and 843.”
The second video is “The True Face of the Virgin Mary” which explores what the Blessed Virgin Mary looked like through interviews and conversations with the Art Historian, Liz Lev, and EWTN Vatican Senior Contributor Paul Badde. It explores why Mary hasn’t acquired fixed physical features.
All are welcome to attend and join the discussion. It is not necessary to have attended prior meetings to participate.
